How Much Should You Charge for UGC in 2026? A No-BS Rate Guide

July 7, 2026

New UGC creators almost always undercharge — and brands almost never correct them. This guide gives you realistic starting rates, the factors that let you charge more, and scripts for answering "what's your rate?" without panicking.

The short answer

If you are brand new and just need a starting point, most working UGC creators price a single short-form video (15–60 seconds, for the brand to use in ads or on their own channels) somewhere in the $100–$250 range. Experienced creators with a strong portfolio routinely charge $300–$600+ per video, and creators with proven ad performance charge far more.

If a brand offers you "free product as payment," that is not a UGC job — that is a product seeding campaign. It can be worth doing when you're building your first portfolio pieces, but be honest with yourself that you're working for free.

Why UGC pricing confuses everyone

UGC is not influencer marketing. You are not being paid for your audience — you're being paid for content production. The brand runs your video on their channels and in their ads. That means:

  • Your follower count mostly doesn't matter. Don't let a brand price you by it.
  • The usage rights matter a lot. A video the brand uses organically for a month is worth much less than one they run as a paid ad for a year.
  • Deliverables matter. One video with three hook variations is more work than one video. Price it that way.

The four things that should set your rate

  1. Deliverables. Count every video, every hook variation, every aspect-ratio re-cut, every photo. Each one is work.
  2. Usage. Organic use only? Paid ads ("ad usage" or "whitelisting")? For how long? A common approach: charge a base rate for organic, then add 30–100% for paid usage rights, per period (e.g. per 3 months).
  3. Exclusivity. If the brand asks you not to work with competitors, that's a real cost to your business. Charge for it.
  4. Turnaround. Rush jobs (under ~5 business days) justify a rush fee.

A simple starter rate card

  • 1 short-form video, organic usage, 30 days: $150
  • Extra hook/CTA variation: +$50 each
  • Paid ad usage: +50% per 90 days
  • Raw footage included: +30%
  • Competitor exclusivity: +$100–300/month depending on how big the category is

Adjust up as your portfolio grows. If every brand says yes instantly, your rate is too low — raise it until some of them negotiate.

What to say when a brand asks your rate

Keep it boring and confident:

"For one 30–60s video with organic usage rights for 30 days, my rate is $X. Paid ad usage is +Y%. Happy to put together a package if you need multiple videos."

If their budget is genuinely lower, negotiate scope, not price: fewer variations, shorter usage window, no raw footage — instead of simply accepting less money for the same work.

Red flags on pricing

  • "We pay in exposure/product" for anything beyond your first portfolio pieces
  • "We need full ownership of all content forever" at a one-video price
  • Asking for spec work ("make us a sample video first, unpaid")

Know your floor before the conversation starts, and it becomes much harder to talk you under it.
